Job Summary

Due to our on-going success, Ardent is looking for a high-calibre individual with a passion for air quality that is seeking a Senior Consultant role in a growing team who can play a key role in our continued development.

The position is based in our London Office leading projects across the UK. Ideally, you’ll have 4-6 years’ post-graduate experience in air quality monitoring and assessment work. This is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to take their career to the next stage developing and applying a wide range of knowledge and skills across all aspects of air quality work and supporting the growth of the business.

Responsibilities / Duties:

Technical:

  • Undertaking desk-based air quality and odour assessments;
  • Desk-based environmental baseline data collection and interpretation;
  • Ambient and Indoor air quality, odour, and dust monitoring), including undertaking site-based monitoring including site assessment, preparation, and maintenance;
  • Advanced dispersion modelling of road traffic emissions, point/area/volume sources for a range of projects including residential, industrial, and transport developments;
  • Use of geographic information systems (GIS) to build models and present results;
  • Data processing and analysis of air quality, emissions, and meteorological data supporting air quality assessments; and
  • Analysis of various data sets including road traffic and energy system information.

Project Management:

  • Lead / Manage the technical delivery of projects;
  • Coordination of multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Work as part of an integrated, progressive team;
  • Attend and contribute to design team, client, pre- and post-contract meetings;
  • Liaison with project team members and local authorities to discuss to an approach and obtain the inputs needed for assessments;
  • Manage own workload and work to deadlines and budgets;
  • Preparation of factual and interpretative report; and
  • Preparation of figures.

Business Development Support:

  • Lead / Manage tender and proposal preparation;
  • Contribute to the winning of new business through the preparation of sales material, and market research; and
  • Contribute to repeat business with existing clients through providing a high-quality professional service and building strong client relationships.

Technical Development Support:

  • Capture of lessons-learned; and
  • Identification and implementation of opportunities for continuous improvement.

Skills:

The following are deemed essential:

Software:

  • Excellent MS Office skills essential such as Word, PowerPoint, and Teams;
  • Intermediate/Advanced MS Excel skills; and
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of the ADMS-Roads atmospheric dispersion model.

Work:

  • Well organised and able to prioritise their own workload and that of others with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a whole;
  • Ability to work on own initiative and problem solve in a scientific context; and
  • Ability to work flexibly, responding to changing project and programme demands.

Communication / Presentation:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Ability to present technical information in a concise and accurate manner;
  • Competent and efficient report writing skills; and
  • Strong attention to detail.

Problem-Solving:

  • Strong mathematical/quantitative analysis skills;
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation;
  • Ability to interpret environmental guidelines, policies, plans, and legislative requirements;
  • Ability to accurately measure and record environmental data; and
  • Strong research skills.

Travel:

  • Flexibility to work across the UK as necessary; and
  • A full driving licence is essential as the role will involve travel for site surveys often with equipment.


The following are deemed desirable but not essential (dependant on experience):

  • Experience using programming languages, such as Python or R;
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of the ADMS-6 atmospheric dispersion model;
  • Knowledge of a particular environmental specialism or market sector; and
  • Previous experience of working in a consultancy environment, including work placements or relevant voluntary experience.

Qualifications / Memberships:

Essential:

  • Minimum upper second degree-level qualification in engineering, science, maths, or the environment; and
  • History of working within environmental consultancy.

Desirable (in role development provided):

  • Air quality themed degree-level main project/thesis;
  • Post-graduate qualification, e.g., MSc or Ph.D. in an environmental or air quality-related discipline; and
  • Membership of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM).
